Sandy Hollingsworth

 

It has been an honor to serve as County Commissioner with four different Commissioners to forward the work of the County. The main duties are to develop policies, support staff, approve land use decisions and create an effective budget for county governance.

During my 27 months in office as of June 2023 I've been proud to:

• Help Clinica Health Clinic open July 2022 by serving on the Mountain Health Care Task Force

• Be a voice for Gilpin on TRIAD Bright Futures Executive Committee for universal pre-k child care funds and secure a dedicated Mountain Coordinator who understands rural community needs

• Compile and obtain $929,678.00 DOLA grant reimbursement for the HHS building in 2021

• Determine allocations of county ARPA funds to hire back staff and fund mitigation & non-profits

• Work with OEM, Timberline Fire, and Watershed groups to complete fire mitigation &projects

• Serve on NOCO2050 Executive Board to address impacts of public land areas overuse

• Inspire the County to put forth a ballot measure to get Lodging Tax passed by the voters in 2022

• Testify on state legislation to increase our gaming & impact funds for our first responders

• Actively speak up in Colorado Counties Inc (CCI) and Counties and Commissioners Together (CCAT) to promote prioritized funding to small rural counties, oppose unfunded mandates, advocate for mental health care & human services programs, set local taxation policies which support counties, and increase funding for fire mitigation and affordable housing

• Budget to be debt free as of January 2023

• Increase Revenue Reserves annually by passing a county resolution to add to this fund 

• Implement competitive salary increases for staff retention

• Expand funding of delayed capital improvements and heavy equipment purchases

• Conduct interviews to hire a new County Manager, HR Director, and Finance Director

• Represent Gilpin on the state Roadmap to Recovery Regional Resiliency Initiative for economic diversity, work to enhance broadband service, and plan for  needed workforce housing 

• Help Gateway to the Rockies Opioid Council disperse settlement funds for substance use responses

• Serve on Jefferson Center for Mental Board to insure mental health clinicians are available in the school, at human services for residents, and in the county jail 

• Approve an updated food pantry to help address food insecurity

• Support historic preservation designations and projects preserving Gilpin's rich history 

• Serve on Recreational Sport Shooting Partnership to bring the planned shooting range to fruition

• Help guide the county through 2021-22 pandemic surges with a commitment to public health
